ABOUT THE CLUB

 

   The Czechoslovak Moravan Club was founded in 1935 as an independent, non-profit local organization, governed solely by its membership, most of whom live in Broome County, NY, in order to assemble men and women of Czechoslovakian origin and decent, their spouses, and children, as brothers and sisters, regardless of their religion for following purposes:

 -To promote the understanding of the  Czechoslovak language, culture, folklore, and customs.

 - To encourage and assist members, and Czechoslovak immigrants to be informed law abiding citizens.

 - To promote respect, friendship, goodwill and mutual understanding among its members and the community. 

   This organization does not promote or support any religious or political aims or purposes, but it respects the personal beliefs and practices of its membership in this regard.

   Klub meetings are held bi-monthly.  Between meetings there are several thnic functions that are sponsored by the klub.

 Fasank - Pre Lenten Celebration held in February

 Anniversary Dinner - Allows members to come together as a group and celebrate the klub, held in May

 Piknik - Day of fun, ethnic food and drink, dancing and games, held in August

 Hody - Harvest Celebration, held in November

 Mikulas - St. Nicholas Party held in December for the children of the klub. 

 The Klub sponsors an adult and children's dance group.  Children must be at least 3 years of age and thier parents must be members of the klub.  Both groups meet on Friday nights.  They perform at several events in our community each year as well as at the New York State Fair.  They have even one to Czechoslovakia to perform and participate in dance workshop!

 Membership dues are $10 per year. This includes membership card, bi-monthly newsletter (Nase Noviny), as well as member rates for ethnic classes and functions being held by the club.


If you are at least 18 years of age and are of Czech, Slovak or Moravian decent you are eligible for membership.

Membership is open all year.
